When I think of a dream floral setup, I think of a picturesque field of flowers. But between you and I, not all of us are cut out for such a life. This is what was just accomplished this past week in the life of said vision:
“We officially have 480 dahlias dug and washed and ready for dividing to make spring a little smoother.
All 40 beds of annuals have been pulled.
All the irrigation has been rolled and put away neater than ever!
All landscape fabric has been pulled folded and organized by hole spacing
610 perrenial plugs planted and rooted in to thrive next season
112 peonys planted and ready to be an amazing addition to early blooms in 2026
2800 tulips tucked away with the help of the neighbor, and his tractor promises of beauty during my favorite part of springtime
500 allium to finish off a few perennial beds
100 garlic in the ground for dried floral garlic braids next fall
The field is all tilled and back to a clean slate. This day is so thrilling as a flower farmer because it's the day that you get to stop dreaming of next season and start really planning now to make next season even more beautiful and bountiful.”
Love the inspiring work ethic. She’s always a sweetheart and also a stunner. I present to you, Megan of Florwegian Farm.

NIRA VIDA: If we were to meet at a party, how would you describe what you do for a living?
Megan: I grow and sell cut flowers retail and wholesale which makes me a farmer florist.
How did you first get started in what you are doing today?
I first got started growing flowers as a young child with my mother. She tended large flower gardens all around our home. As I got older I missed that connection with her and nature and I dove straight into preparing a flower farm. The flower field has grown into a place that feels as familiar as home, as well as an endless conversation with my biggest fan (my mom), about every new bloom and challenge.
Are you from Minnesota? Where are you from and where have you lived?
I am from Fisher Minnesota, which is a very small rural farming community. Things are slower and more intentional there. I've also lived in Wisconsin where things are much the same. Farming flowers gives me that life with a bit more of the hustle and bustle living closer to the metro in Buffalo.
How has this shaped you to who you are today?
I have become such a balance of being content and driven because of making my dream priority. Everyday I am reminded of the blessings and small moments that I worked so hard to have in abundance. These moments drive me to continue this journey.
Megan has been gracious to allow NIRA VIDA to source local blooms directly from her farm. I bring my two little girls to play. You see here, my eldest, swinging joyously. I’m usually cutting around in the back. I always enjoy banter with these ladies. They really brighten our day.
How do you feel about being an Entrepreneur? What have you learned in your time doing so?
I feel that being an entrepreneur means being willing to show up for yourself and out work everyone's expectations, because that's where shit gets done and goals are accomplished. It doesn't matter if the world believes you can do it, it only matters that you don't stop until you get where you want to be. When you get there Stop and enjoy the view and keep moving forward.
Besides your work, what do you do in your spare time?
More work haha, as a business Owner work is always on my mind, but I enjoy time with family, camping, hiking and fishing. Sushi lunches with friends and live music you can boogie to.
Who (or what) do you spend most of your time with?
I spend most of my time at the flower farm. It is a place people visit often. A lot of time there is spent with Erva who is the owner of the land we grow on and my aunt Linda who's help in the flowers is fundamental in the success this season. When not at the farm my time is dedicated to family time.
What is something about you, most people would be surprised to know?
I kill every succulent I even glance at. .
What gets you up every morning?
To see what new is blooming. And a good cup of coffee and a mental checklist.
They harvest usually early in the morning before it gets to hot. The flowers appreciate it. I’m sure they do too. These lovelies are Oxford Salvia also known as Clary Sage.
On that topic, tell us what a typical day looks like for you, starting with your morning routine.
My day starts with coffee and emails. Then depending on the season I typically go to the flower farm and harvest all the blooms that are ready. After all the flowers are harvested, we fill orders and make bouquets and usually finish the day with a bit of field maintenance.
Megan and Erva Hance chatting important matters
Who has helped you the most?
I would say Erva had helped me accomplish my dream the most with her generously providing land to grow on, along with her priceless friendship and kindness.
Erva Hance, the property owner and close collaborator with Florwegian Farm. It wasn’t unlikely that they would get on well. Erva’s history stems from the founding fathers of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum
Tell us about the people you serve and why it’s so important.
I provide flowers for all sorts of people from wholesalers to farmers market goers to brides. What makes it important is the happiness and beauty it spreads.
What are you most looking forward to in the next year or two?
In the next few years I am looking forward to shifting my sales more into wholesale so I can spend weekends off and more weekdays in the field with the flowers
Similar to produce, locally sourced blooms carry a more robust profile along with impressive longevity in a vase.
How about the next 10?
Working towards buying a farm of our own.
Megan also carries a wide variety of dried flowers that take center stage when the season comes to a close.
If you could give words of encouragement to someone 15 years younger than you, what would you say to them?
If you keep working towards your goal, eventually you will get there.
Don't let anything or anyone stop you.
How does Florwegian Farm make our community a better place?
Florwegian Flower Farm brings happiness and beauty to the community and brings people together through workshops and classes. We might be biased, but we all believe flowers make everything better.
What is the best way for the community to connect with you?
Support your local flower farmer, wherever you are. You can do this by visiting your local farmers market, sourcing from florists that utilize their blooms, or direct from the flower farmer.
